Religious Groups And Religious Organizations - 1101 Words

I am of the opinion that religious groups or religious organizations should not be allowed to participate in politics and should not impart their views and values to influence government matters or attempt to elect their politicians. In other words, the government does not appoint bishops and pastors for the churches and the churches do not appoint presidents, governors, and judges. This paper will offer my opinions and reasons sustained by evidence of relevant ideas that support my views. The question of religion and politics has been an issue in American society almost since its conception. However, the question of church and state is an entirely separate issue and is not the same thing. What I mean is that one religion may be favored over another when considering the intermingling of church and state, at which time the concept of separation is valid. On the other hand, churches and all other religious organizations, have the right to practice freedom of religion as guaranteed by the Constitution (Cauthen, 1997). In a sense, the American Society is a secular nation. Still, difficulties exist that complicate any simple notion of religious detachment or one hundred percent secularism in this country. One major issue arises when religious belief and practice conflict with the secular law. History has proven time, and again that freedom of religion does not necessarily guarantee the freedom of individual religious practices. Every 40 seconds someone in the world dies because of suicide. Why is it that our society is so used to seeing people on the news, loose someone because they had completed suicide? Instead of promoting suicides, we should prevent it. In the field of psychology, where it’s the study of mind and behavior, I’ve decided to take a closer look on the current rates, main causes and ways to prevent suicides.
